Where was THIS when we needed it??

In addition to a way better offensive line for the mightly Wolverines, we sure could have used some extra-BLING-y whistle-power to call out the unsportsmanlike conduct demonstrated by the feisty men in green (or what must have seemed like green to whoever selected those unfortunate “vintage-look” Spartan jerseys … ) at yesterday’s match-up between Big Ten rivals Michigan vs. Michigan State …

But, never mind – that’s so yesterday. What’s really worth talking about here is this beyond clever “Virginia Woolf Whistle” created by incredible jeweler and hip fashion/lifestyle blogger, Wendy Brandes.

In her own words, Wendy B. is …

“ … a journalist-turned-jewelry designer … graduated from Columbia University in New York with a bachelor’s degree in English … worked at Dow Jones News Service, the Wall Street Journal, CNN and People.com, … managing editor of websites for the now-defunct Lehman Brothers … left the corporate world in 2005 to spread happiness by creating wearable works of art … ”

Love that! What more noble cause could there be than “to spread happiness” — ? And, what better way to do that, than through je-wels?? Together with the high-quality workmanship that goes into each carefully crafted piece, Wendy B. designs come with unexpected twists that surprise and delight.

Here, again in her own words, Ms. B describes her work:

“Conniving queens and merry medieval murderesses rank high among the inspirations for my fine jewelry. My designs run to the devious and mechanically ingenious, with pieces that open up, swivel, twist into new shapes and even whistle. I work in sterling silver, 18K gold and platinum. All gems are the real deal.”

So, take the “Virginia Woolf Whistle” (shown above AND featured in the November issue of ELLE) … On the outside, it’s the classic, lovely coach’s whistle … all BLING-ed up with gold and diamonds. That alone, is outstanding (and happily jubilant) …

But wait – there’s more! Unlatch a little clasp on the whistle, and you’ll find a tiny gold wolf (shown below) prowling around inside! A wolf whistle – so inspired!
